Mirla Sabino runs her own swimwear line under the name ANK (www.ankswimwear.com). Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which she calls "the swimwear capital of the world," Mirla (one of her designs is at left) now lives and works in Miami, FL, which she calls "the swimwear capital of the U.S."

Q: Can you remember your first swimsuit?

It was a polka dot bikini I had when I was 1 ½ years old. I have to say it was a sensational style, and I absolutely adored it! ANK is a brand that I created using elements I believe was lacking in swimwear designs.

Q: What bathing suit style really annoys you?

Anything that is too big in the behind. Although I never like a suit to show too much, I just can't stand diaper-style bottoms.

Q: Those suits that have a strip or a chain or ties connecting the bottom to the top. Are those bikinis? One-pieces? Do they have a special name?

We call them monokinis, because they are like a bikini made into a one-piece cut-out.

Q: What is the best type of suit to party in?

It depends on the party, but I would have to say a gorgeous one-piece cut-out. Monokinis are fun, with lots of style and they adorn the body. Also it's more comfortable for dancing and socializing, whether it is poolside or on the beach.

Q: Is there such a thing as a bikini that is too revealing?

Definitely. There is a thing as showing too much. It's always better to leave a little to the imagination.

Q: Who should not be wearing a bikini?

Anyone who is not willing to have fun!

Q: What type of suit would you recommend for a wild Las Vegas pool party?

I would go with either a retro style suit or one with bright, vibrant colors to pop out in the crowd.

Q: What is the sexiest swimsuit a man can wear?

Trunks. There is nothing sexier than a Brazilian man in black trunks.
