Valerie Plame

Plame In The Spotlight

While much of the media coverage was directed at Joe Wilson, Plame was placed increasingly in the spotlight.

A full length feature story ran in The New York Times profiling Plame, titled, "The Employee." Not only was her cover endangered—that had happened before when her name was discovered to have been among those leaked by Aldrich Ames to the Russians, it had been blown in a way that meant it would never be retrieved. Her career—or at least the undercover investigative work—was most certainly over.

In the meantime, the Justice Department's prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald was looking into allegations raised by David Corn of The Nation that a law had actually been broken by the White House administration officials for knowingly releasing classified information.
