Her father, California state senator Paul Carpenter, was so distraught at her disappearance that he stopped his chemotherapy treatments. Before he died in 2002, he said publicly that he believed his son-in-law, Bruce Koklich, had murdered her. In Oct. 2003, a prosecutor convinced a jury to convict Koklich of his missing wife's murder. Koklich is currently serving 15 years to life in prison.
