On October 16, 2006, just shy of that eagerly anticipated 14^th birthday, things went irrevocably wrong as the simmering feud came fatally to a boil. "Josh" and Megan were fighting on MySpace. He accused her of treating her friends poorly and saying horrible things about them. When that didn't produce any acknowledgement of the rumors about Sarah, "Josh" kept pressing and an online quarrel ensued. Other girls joined the online fray. In the end, "Josh" told Megan that the world would be better off without her.

Megan initially pressed for details, and the squabble spread drawing in other teenagers on MySpace. When her mother attempted to intervene, Megan, feeling attacked on all sides, lashed out at her and stomped upstairs.
