Authorities examined the jawbones of the victims, hoping they would reveal clues that would lead to their identities. Since the case broke in 1978, the jaws were stored at the medical examiner's office. In 2009, they were buried in a pauper's grave, where they remained until the Sheriff's office obtained a court order to exhume them for further examination.
