11/12/2009: Edis Kayalar (left,) a German male model, was charged with trying to extort $100,000 from Cindy Crawford and her husband, nightclub chain owner Rande Gerber (pictured with Cindy,) by threatening to leak a "sexy" photo of the couple's 7-year-old daughter Kaia. The photo, taken by Kaia's former nanny, who was dating Kayalar at the time, allegedly depicts the girl dressed in revealing clothing, gagged and tied to a chair. According to the nanny, who has not been charged in connection with the plot, the photo was taken during a game of cops and robbers. Gerber gave Kayalar $1,000, promising a wire transfer later. When Kayalar demanded the rest of the promised sum, Crawford and Gerber went to police, who arrested Kayalar and turned him over to immigration authorities, who in turn shipped him back to Germany. Charged with one count of extortion in Los Angeles, Kayalar allegedly continued to demand payment from Germany, until finally turning himself in to police. If convicted, Kayalar faces up to two years in prison.
