John Edward Robinson, 58, a father of four, was the first Internet serial killer and one of the boldest criminals in recent history. His brutal treatment of his sometimes-willing victims stands in stark contrast to his benign, fleshy appearance. In 1995, Robinson bought a computer and began luring women for online sex in chat rooms, calling himself "The Slave Master", in reference to his BDSM lifestyle. According to police, he did later meet some of these women in person and have sex with them. Then, women he met started to disappear. Authorities say Robinson killed a total of six women and sexually assaulted two others in Kansas and Missouri over a period of 15 years. Robinson was tried on 3 counts of capital murder in the bludgeoning deaths of two women found on his property—Izabela Lewicka, 21, of West Lafayette, Ind., and Suzette Trouten, 27, of Newport, Mich.— and in the death of Lisa Stasi, 19, who disappeared with her four-month-old daughter, Tiffany, in 1985. Robinson took Stasi's infant and sold her to his brother, pretending to be an adoption broker and pocketing $5,500 for his services. Robinson was sentenced to death for the murders and sit on Kansas' death row.
