Angry Angry Hippo
11/28/2005: A psychiatric nurse's first trip to Africa ended in tragedy when she was trampled and killed by a hippopotamus. A day after arriving at a camp near Lake Naivasha in Kenya, Vicky Elizabeth Bartlett, 50, and 10 other tourists went on an unsupervised excursion to try to spot a herd of hippos Bartlett had noticed at a distance earlier. Bartlett and another female member of the group found themselves caught between a mother hippo and her calf. The mother charged, killing Bartlett.
