This Crime Library story was constructed from a variety of primary and secondary sources. My exclusive interviews with Dr. Paul Edholm over the course of the past year helped me to understand the complex nature of the case. Likewise, Dr. Edholm was gracious enough to share with me a comprehensive, 20-page report he prepared for the case, in which he outlines the entire scope of the investigation and forensic work. Additionally, police reports, notes, warrants and affidavits Dr. Edholm used to write his report were extremely helpful. Dr. Edholm appeared on Court TV's "Forensic Files" to discuss this case, and watching a DVD of that show was equally helpful in understanding how the case came together over the course of nearly five decades. The quotes from Gerald Mason in court were taken from court testimony and published Associated Press reports of the case. By far, however, many thanks are in order to Mr. Edholm for his extensive knowledge about the case, which I was able get from him during our many hours of discussions and e-mails. Thank you, Dr. Edholm.
