Stephanie Byrd had left her husband Bruce Byrd. She had an order of protection against him, which she’d been granted in April. Last Friday, Stephanie went to Bruce’s mother’s house when she thought no one would be there to pick up her things. When she arrived, Bruce unleashed a barrage of bullets. Police say 30 to 33 shots were fired.

In 1985, Japanese immigrant Fumiko Kimura tried to commit oyako-shinju or parent-child suicide, after learning of her husband’s infidelity. Pulled out of the water by passers-by, Kimura survived. Her two young children did not.
Sharon Lopatka wanted to be strangled to death, so she met a man online who was willing to do it. Sharon told her husband she was going to visit friends, and left her Maryland home for North Carolina where her new friend Bobby Glass would end her life. On October 25,1996, police found Sharon’s body near Bobby’s home. The ligature marks on her neck suggested her violent death was what she’d asked for.
Justin Helzer convicted in 2004 along with his brother Glen, both leaders of the Children of Thunder cult, for his part in the murders of five people. Trial documents held that the brothers committed the murders to bring joy, peace, love and Christ back to the world; that however never really worked out.
Teen army recruit Michelle Miller, who was reportedly “smitten” with her much older recruiter, left home to help him when she thought he was in danger of hurting himself. In the morning, both were found dead.
