On Monday, May 14, 2012, an Orange County jury found Robert McClain guilty of eight felony charges, including the most serious counts of torture, aggravated mayhem, spousal rape, sodomy by means of force, and false imprisonment.
On Thursday afternoon, a Santa Ana, California jury found ex-LASD deputy Robert McClain sane when he brutally attacked his wife and her lover. McClain now faces life in prison, rather than in a mental institution.
The sanity phase began Monday in the trial of Robert McClain, who was convicted of torture and mayhem yesterday. If defense attorneys cannot convince a jury their client was insane when the crimes were committed, he faces life imprisonment.
