On August 7, 2000, Amy Blom took the stand to testify for the defense in the trial of her husband, Donald Blom. Blom, a convicted sex offender with a history of kidnappings and sexual assaults, was accused of murdering 19-year-old Katie Poirier. Serving a life sentence for the murder, he is suspected of being a serial killer.
On May 26, 1999, Katie Poirier was reported missing from the convenience store where she worked. Once the surveillance video was reviewed, police were able to put clues together to help discover that the abductor was Donald Blom.
On June 18, 1999, a tip about a truck led investigators to Donald Hutchinson, aka Donald Blom, a repeat sex offender who had convictions for abducting petite young girls like missing Katie Poirier, and was apparently very adept at shifting identities and covering his tracks.
