Charges in Alleged ‘Mercy Killing’ Upgraded to Murder

Prosecutors in Summit County, Oh., have filed an aggravated murder charge against a man accused of fatally shooting his wife as she lay in a hospital bed. The charges came after the results of an autopsy performed on Barbara Wise, 65, who died Sunday following Saturday’s alleged shooting.

On Saturday, John Wise, 66, allegedly entered an Akron hospital through the main entrance, keeping a handgun concealed. Police say no one else was in the room when Wise allegedly shot his incapacitated wife as she lay in bed at the hospital’s ICU.
