A California daycare worker is accused of spiking little kids’ drinks with an over the counter sleep aid.
In the 1980s and 1990s, the parents of young children throughout the United States were caught up in a hysteria over sex abuse and satanic rituals at daycare facilities. Central to this moral panic was the McMartin preschool in California, whose staff were charged with multiple crimes against children. It was one of the longest and most expensive trials in American history, and resulted in all charges being dropped.
Three daycare workers in Dover, Del., are facing charges that include assault and endangerment after police say they forced two 3-year-old children in their care to fight each other. Police became aware of the incident, which is alleged to have taken place five months ago, after an officer saw a cell phone video of the pint-size pugilism this weekend.
