From reports, it seems that this kid knew what he was doing. On Wednesday he went to the Minneapolis airport to get the lay of the land. He stole an arriving passenger’s bag, had lunch, and was able to gain access to the terminal without a boarding pass. He left the bag in the restaurant along with an unpaid lunch tab.
Then on Thursday, he returned. He is seen on surveillance video talking to a Delta agent at a gate. Then, when the agent was busy, the boy is seen walking down the jetway and boarding a plane headed to Las Vegas.
The boy may have blended in with a family traveling with other kids, which could explain why Delta allowed him on the plane without a boarding pass. But once the flight was en route, attendants noticed that the boy didn’t have a guardian and he didn’t show up on a list of unattended minors on the flight. The flight crew contacted Las Vegas Police, who took the boy into protective custody when the flight landed. The boys parents were contacted and his return trip to Minneapolis was arranged, the Star Tribune newspaper reported.
As for an explanation, there isn’t much available yet — leaving one to wonder if the boy wanted to gamble or just see the shows?
