David Richardson’s ex-girlfriend turned victim called him a “monster.” Richardson referred to himself as “the worst guy ever” at a court hearing. Now he’s going to prison for over three decades for the violence he brought upon his ex; violence that still keeps her awake at night.
In February, a New Jersey jury found Richardson, 39, of Paulsboro guilty of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault during commission of a burglary, burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and theft. The charges stemmed from a June, 2010 incident in which Richardson broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend and, armed with a knife, raped her twice while punching her in the face. He then stole $1,700 from her.
The victim, the single mother of a teenage girl, told the court that prior to his trial, Richardson harassed her with phone calls from jail despite being ordered not to contact her. She also said that she has a difficult time sleeping as a result of the attack.
Richardson will serve 20 years for first-degree aggravated sexual assault, 10 years for second-degree aggravated sexual assault and 18 months for contempt. The terms will be served consecutively and Richardson will only be eligible for parole after serving 85% of his term, meaning the earliest he can get out is in 27 years.
When questioned about how he treats women at an examination, Richardson reportedly said, “Once the honeymoon is over … I’m the worst guy ever.”
