For those of you who have wondered how the more modern electric chair works and how it is used to execute prisoners, this video taken in the electric chair execution chamber at the Virginia State Prison gives specific details. While watching this video bear in mind that though lethal injection has been the default method of execution in Virginia since 1994, inmates may still opt for execution via the electric chair.
Since 1994 seven inmates have chosen death by electrocution, the most recent was Robert Gleason on January 16, 2013. Gleason’s was the first execution of 2013.
His last words were uttered in Gaelic, “Pog mo thoin,” which translates to: “Kiss my ass.”
