A Santa Fe, New Mexico, man was arrested on April 3, 2013, after seeking emergency medical treatment from being stabbed with a metal fork by his ex. Hospital personnel summoned police, who were able to determine that Daniel Anaya, 27, sustained the injury during an attack on his ex-girlfriend, in which he allegedly tried to cut off her toe. They were also able to determine that Anaya was a former shoe salesman, which definitely sets off this writer’s “weird-o-meter,” but please read on.
It seems that the unnamed victim left the fair city of Santa Fe for Albuquerque after an incident in February 2013 in which Anaya reportedly broke into her apartment and asked if he could smell her feet. When she refused, he became enraged, threw her into a wall, pulled off her shoes and socks and started chowing down on her toe flesh and toenail. He bit one of her big toes down to the bone, and it is unclear, but reports seem to indicate that he bit at least part of one toe clean off. Anaya was charged with aggravated battery and burglary.
This was apparently not the first time that Anaya had attacked this woman’s toes. The victim told police that she had broken up with him after a four-year relationship in November 2012, after Anaya tried to bite off her other big toe. The victim successfully got a protective order against Anaya after the February attack.
This time the toe-severing shoe salesman decided to get down to business and brought a cigar cutter. It seems that the woman was able to defend herself against Anaya by stabbing him with a metal fork. Anaya returned to Santa Fe to get medical help and was arrested there. Capt. Aric Wheeler of the Santa Fe Police Department described the case, “It’s odd. Extremely odd.” They believe Anaya is dangerous.
