Young couple Dustin Canup, 20, and Sareena Morrison, 18, of Loveland, Colorado, were arrested on January 25, 2013, after police say they were caught in a bizarre sting operation. According to authorities, they set up a meeting with a pedophile, who was to bring his daughter, 6, to a motel for sex with the couple. Canup and Morrison, however, not realizing that they were actually in contact with law enforcement, were planning a sting of their own. When intercepted by police at the arranged meeting, Canup was found to be carrying a big knife and handcuffs. When it was obvious that the couple had not come for sex, police questioned them further. Canup and Morrison reportedly told police that they had planned to rob the pedophile and take his daughter to raise as their own.
Win-win, right? Chalk one up for vigilante justice! Well, police don’t’ see it that way and have charged them with criminal conspiracy to commit kidnapping, criminal attempt to commit kidnapping, criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, criminal attempt to commit aggravated robbery, criminal conspiracy to commit extortion and criminal attempt to commit extortion.
Morrison admitted to police that Canup had lost his job and they needed money (and apparently a kid too) so they set up this robbery and another with a man who believed he was meeting an underage girl for sex. As far as authorities can tell, though, the couple has only been in contact with police.
