Do You Recognize This Hat? Police Hope Winter Headwear Will Help Find Shooting Suspect

Police in Grand Prairie, Tex., are hoping photos of a warm winter hat will help them find a suspect who they say shot a man in cold blood.

On February 15, 43-year-old Paul Rodriguez and a friend arrived at the Quail Ridge apartment complex where Rodriguez lived. Police say a man tried to rob them and shot Rodriguez, who died later at the hospital. Less than two weeks following that shooting, the same suspect is believed to have shot another man in the leg at the Timber Oaks apartment complex while trying to steal his car. That victim survived, and was able to describe the suspect to police.

The shooter was able to escape both times, but a furry hat police in sunny Texas are calling “unusual” may bring them closer to capturing him. Of the item found at the scene of Rodriguez’s killing, police said, “We recovered a very distinct winter cap that has earflaps on it. It’s black in color and is furry, or has wool on the sides.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 972-988-TIPS (4877) or Grand Prairie Major Crimes Detectives at 972-237-8877.
