Victim impact statements are often the most heartrending part of a murder trial. While the accused receives much of the attention throughout court proceedings, the victim impact statements allow those affected by the defendant’s actions to have their story heard.

At the 1992 trial of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the family members of some of the 17 men and boys Dahmer murdered spoke about the suffering they’ve gone through following the brutal loss of their loved ones. Dahmer was beaten to death in prison two years after being sentenced to 15 life terms.
