It seems that Rahmell Pettway, 36, aka Rahmell Wallace, got in way over his head when he ducked out on his girlfriend for two weeks with no explanation. So in a desperate move to avoid telling her where he was and what he was doing, Pettway decided to fake his own abduction.
Cops found Pettway hogtied with duct tape in the street at 1:10 a.m. on February 28, 2013, between two cars on Macon Street. They were first alerted to the ruse by the telltale roll of duct tape still dangling from Pettway’s wrists. At first Pettway, who police describe as a “total moron,” said he “couldn’t recall” what had happened to him and was taken to Woodhull Hospital. Once there he spun a tale of two men in a light-blue minivan abducting him on February 19, blindfolding him, and holding him captive for two weeks before dumping him where he was found. Eventually, however, he fessed up to having skipped out for a few weeks, to being terrified of facing his girlfriend and to desperately concocting what police are describing as “a pathetic attempt to pull the wool [over] her eyes.”
Pettway was arrested for making a false report. No word on how his girlfriend took the news.
