A woman in China has filed an official complaint against the Liyuan Industrial and Commercial Bureau for shoddy manufacturing after a fake pregnancy belly she was wearing slipped off in public, causing her not-just-a-little embarrassment.
False baby bumps are usually sold as theater props. This woman, however, was wearing the prop every morning on her commute on the Beijung metro to increase her chances of getting a seat on the overcrowded train. When the prop fell off, she was outed and very publicly ridiculed by the other passengers.
Humiliated by the experience she took her complaint to the bureau in question, which has refused to takeit seriously saying that she was not using the product in the way it was intended. A write up in the South China Morning Post on February 28, 2013, seems to have done little to garner sympathy for her cause, instead provoking thousands of angry comments from readers, who called her allegation, among other things, “the most shameless complaint in history.”
