A Sebring, Florida, man is expected to recover fully after being shot in the leg by his pet dog on February 23, 2013.
Gregory Dale Lanier of Highlands County was driving his truck when his dog, apparently riding shotgun, kicked a .380-caliber pistol that was on the truck’s floor. Lanier thought the gun was not loaded. It is not known if the dog, whose name has not been released, knew that the gun was loaded. Sebring Police Commander Steve Carr told Highlands Today that “when his dog kicked his unloaded .380 pistol causing it to fire and the bullet struck his leg. Lanier said he heard boom, saw smoke and felt a burning in his leg.”
Carr added that Police did not detain or arrest the dog, but said they are investigating.
