Kira and Jeff Trevino.
St. Paul woman Kira Trevino, 30, was reported missing after she failed to show up for work at the Mall of America Friday. The last person to see her, police say, was her husband, Jeff Trevino. Trevino’s friend and coworker, Tara Hall, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Trevino had left her Iowa Ave home to head to work and never made it. Trevino’s white Chevy Cobalt was found Monday in a remote area of the mall’s parking garage. Her wallet and phone were in it. Trevino’s family told Fox 9 that her car had been found backed in to a spot where she didn’t usually park. They added that she was not skilled at parking.
During a 2:30 p.m. press conference today, St. Paul police announced that Jeff Trevino has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with his wife’s disappearance. Police had searched the couple’s home and reportedly found enough evidence to suggest that the crime occurred there.
According to posts on Trevino’s Facebook, he is former military, and had been married to Kira Trevino since June, 2010. Before his arrest, Trevino confirmed to the Star Tribune that his wife’s car had been found in the parking garage, but refused to comment further, stating that he did not want to “hinder the investigation.”
