Inside the Toy Box Killer’s Torture Trailer

David Parker Ray called his trailer the ‘toy box,’ but the games he played in there were only fun for him. Inside the trailer, parked in Truth or Consequences, N.M., Ray kept a variety of torture devices, including whips, chains, pulleys, straps, clamps, leg spreader bars, and surgical blades and saws. The trailer also housed a gynecological table and an electricity generator he used to deliver shocks to his victims. Though he was never convicted of murder, it is believed that Ray killed many of his victims.

Ray was apprehended after escaped torture victims led police back to his trailer. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Ray had accomplices: a woman named Cindy Hendy, a man named David Yancy, and his own daughter, Glenda Jean “Jessie” Ray. During his trial for abduction and torture, Ray took a plea bargain and was sentenced to 224 years in prison. He died of a heart attack before police got a chance to interrogate him about possible murders.
