Police are searching for answers in the arson attack on a Miami, Fla., man December 25, 2012. Darrell Brackett, 44, was reportedly with his girlfriend in their van after dropping friends off after a Christmas barbeque when their van ran out of gas at at about 11:30 p.m. Brackett went on foot to a nearby gas station, paid for gas, and with a container, went to the pump. The Miami Herald reports that Brackett, who is still in critical condition with third-degree burns to 75% of his body, was attacked by three men while at the pump. A witness, who helped Brackett after the attack, told reporters that the victim had had words with some men, ran from them, but fell, and three men doused him with his own gas and set him on fire.
The security cameras were reportedly not working that night, so police as well as the victim’s family are canvassing the area for clues and information. Police are investigating this as an attempted homicide.
Anyone with any information on Brackett’s attack is asked to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
