Groveton, Texas, tugboat operator Jeffie Melder, 35, has been convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual performance by a child and indecency with a child, and sentenced to three consecutive life sentences for an incident in which he apparently coerced his wife, Shelly Renee Melder,31, into having three-way sex with a boy, 8. When Jeffie got wind of Shelly’s confession to a friend, he reportedly called an 800 crime hotline and implicated her in an effort to direct suspicion away from himself. Investigators traced the IP and associated activity and discovered that Melder regularly got live streams of his wife having sex with other men and women while he was overseas. After talking with investigators, Shelly agreed to testify against her husband and plead guilty to her part in the rape, and, with the understanding that she had been forced, will serve only 10 years. In addition to Shelly, the court heard from two of Melder’s cousins, who testified that he had done sexually inappropriate things to them years earlier. The victim was interviewed and received counseling after Melder’s November 2010 arrest. The victim, who has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, gave a prerecorded testimony at the trial. Melder will be eligible for parole in 2077.
