Deputy Richard DiGiovanni
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard DiGiovanni was arrested early yesterday morning after he was allegedly found sitting in a parked car with a 15-year-old girl in San Fernando around 2 a.m. DiGiovanni was off-duty at the time, and police say he and the girl were only talking.
DiGiovanni, who has been on the police force for 11 years, was arrested on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail, and is suspended with pay pending an investigation. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a broad statute that “prohibits committing an act or failing to perform a duty that causes a minor to behave in an unlawful manner.” San Fernando interim Police Chief Gil Carillo declined to specify how this applies to DiGiovanni’s behavior.
The name of the girl or details about her relationship with DiGiovanni have not been released. As of this writing, the no charges have been officially filed against DiGiovanni.
