A 25-year-old Bronx woman is in jail, charged with killing her 17-year-old boyfriend. Frankie Hernandez and Jasmine Diaz, who’d reportedly been dating for about two years, were arguing early Wednesday over a shattered iPhone when Hernandez stepped in front of Diaz’s 2003 Lincoln Aviator SUV. Police say Diaz stepped on the gas and ran over Hernandez before driving off. Hernandez’s family rushed outside to find the teen’s body on the ground. His mother, Iris Hernandez, told the NY Daily News, “I ran down to the street and it was too late. His head was crushed. He wasn’t moving. There was blood everywhere.” His brother Cesar Hernandez added, “I heard the rubber burning and saw her just drive off. By the time I got to him, he was trying to talk, but just bubbles came out of his mouth.”
According to the victim’s family, Diaz was Hernandez’s babysitter before they began dating. The couple had a rocky relationship: “She’s crazy. She likes to hit him and take advantage of him,” said Hernandez’s mother. Family members say that when Hernandez broke her cell phone by accident, Diaz lost her cool. Cesar Hernandez told the NY Daily News that he heard Diaz say “I just hit Frankie. I just hit him. I don’t know what to do,” before allegedly driving off.
Diaz left her car near her mother’s Bronx apartment and hid there until police came to arrest her. She was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crime.
