A teenage boy charged with 2nd-degree murder for the September, 2011, killing of his aunt has changed his plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of insanity. Authorities in Lake Charles, La., say Jeffrey Doise, 17, shot his aunt, 40-year-old Susan Doise. Her body was discovered in the bathroom by police, who arrived at the Jefferson Drive home the morning after the shooting. Doise’s 4-year-old son was in the house, and had reportedly spent the entire night alone with his dead mother. The investigation focused on Jeffrey Doise, who had taken the victim’s car and later abandoned it nearby. He was found hiding in a shed on the property and arrested.
After changing his plea, Doise will be examined by a psychiatrist. A pretrial conference is scheduled for October, 2012; in the meantime he remains at Calcasieu Correctional Center.
