Shirley Lynn Scott grew up in the Bay Area during the 1970's, spending her formative years terrified of the Zodiac Killer, Charles Manson and the Zebra Killer. Growing up with the assumption that murderers were everywhere indiscriminate and senseless shaped the way she saw the world. In time, fear evolved into fascination with what drove people to such extremes.
Shirley received her master's degree in American Literature, where she studied crime in fiction, from Dostoevsky to Flannery O'Connor. She came to see how investigating crime can act as a gateway to social dilemmas, from mental health issues to racial prejudice, hidden abuses and class conflict.
Shirley has been interviewed by a several media outlets, from local news agencies to theBBC, and has been cited in numerous books. She has written many true crime documentaries, including the series "Extreme Forensics", "I, Detective" and "Interrogation Room". She has also presented her work at the Sorbonne and the University of California at Berkeley. To learn more, please visit Shirley's blog: http://shirleylynnscott.blogspot.com/
