Philly Cheese Mistake: Why Your City's Signature Food Is Dumb
Green Chile Cheeseburger, Santa Fe, NM
Although green chiles are an endangered crop, you wouldn't know it the way people in New Mexico consume their famous green chile cheeseburgers. A famous staple of this Southwest part of the country, the spunky snack blends the All-American cheeseburger with a heaping helping of indigenous green chiles on top. It's considered a sin to add condiments since the heat and flavor speaks for itself.
Why it's dumb:New Mexico sure is taking some liberties with their regional delicacy considering the only thing different happening here is the fact that they take an established food item and then slop a liberal amount of endangered species right on top. The New Mexico Board of Tourism apparently created The Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail which I'm guessing helps contribute to the problem.
