Tech service guy tells woman she's too stupid to own a computer
This oft-circulated email forward, which transcribes a supposed tech service call to WordPerfect's help line, was a hit back in the early days of the Internet. (Remember WordPerfect? It was like Microsoft Word, only you used it while downing Crystal Pepsi.) As the call progresses, the tech service guy becomes increasingly more frustrated with the customer's incompetence. (Tech guy: Can you see the C:\ prompt on the screen? Caller: What's a sea-prompt?) Finally, the customer reveals that she is trying to use WordPerfect during a power outage, prompting the now annoyed tech service guy to recommend that she pack up her computer and take it back to the store. When the woman asks what she should say to the people at the store, the tech service guy delivers the kicker: "Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer." Technology may change, but one thing stays the same: techies love ripping on n00bs.
Why it's dumb: Because it's a half-truth. While a tech service guy did post a tale of dealing with a dumb customer on the Web, the "too stupid to own a computer" part was just what he wished he had said. Of course, this being the Internet, the story was passed off as fact. Meanwhile, the tech service employee's job was probably outsourced to India soon after.
