Dumbest Moments of the 2010-2011 NFL season
The Fall of Brett Favre

Dumb moment: A former football legend refuses to fade away, choosing to self-destruct instead over the course of an entire season. Hey Brett, you could always audition for Jersey Shore.
What happened: We all know what happened to the reputation of Brett Favre this year, but if you've forgotten, a bit of advice: when you Google it, make sure you don't do an image search. Either way, the old gunslinger who just couldn't hang up the spikes signed up with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2010 campaign, and in a season wracked by scandal and injury, finally retired from the game with not just his body broken, but his reputation in tatters.
Vikings to Moss: It's not us, its you

Dumb moment: The Vikings mothball Randy Moss after four short, stormy weeks because Moss is a bratty blabbermouth.
What happened: Randy Moss, the future Hall of Fame wide receiver, had joined the New England Patriots in 2007, but he had problems getting along with the Patriots organization. When the Minnesota Vikings acquired him for a third round draft pick, they thought they were getting the Randy Moss who got his NFL break with the Vikings. Oh, no. New Randy Moss mouthed off about head coach Childress, and got the heave-ho.
Texans live and die on a prayer

Dumb moment: The score is tied. The seconds click down on the clock. Suddenly, Jacksonville throws a desperate bomb which misfires, but the Houston defense is strangely eager to help the ball find a reciever. It's not been a good year for football fans in the Lone Star State.
What happened: Troubled teams Jacksonville and Houston were tied in the final seconds of the fourth quarter when Jacksonville QB David Gerrard heaved a Hail Mary pass into the end zone. All was seemingly lost when the ball was swatted down by Houston cornerback Glover Quin, but he swatted it into the waiting arms of Jacksonville wide receiver Mike Thomas. The Jaguars score with no time on the clock, making it 31-24 and handing the Texans their third straight loss.
Mike Singletary loses his temper, job

Dumb moment: San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary freaks out at QB Troy Smith, who returns the favor. It's an embarrassing spectacle, like watching mom and dad fight in public, albeit a beefy mom and dad.
What happened: The expectations were high for 49ers coach, and Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary. The Niners started the season with an undefeated preseason record, and then proceeded to lose their first five games. As the team melted down on the field, Singletary melted down on the sidelines, treating the world to man baby tantrums. After the Niners failed to make the postseason, Singletary was sacked.
The best part of Cowboys Stadium? No Cowboys

Dumb moment: Everything is big in Texas, including egos and failure
What happened: When it was announced that Super Bowl XLV would be played in the new Cowboys Stadium, the massive shrine to football/The Death Star built in 2009 by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, you could imagine that ol' blowhard thinking his team had a date with destiny in 2011. Instead, the Dallas Cowboys suffered an epic collapse, and Jones would fire head coach Wade Phillips after the team dropped seven of its first eight games, en route to a disappointing 6-10 season.
The NFL is allergic to snow

Dumb moment: Football is a sport that is played partially in the winter. It snows in the winter. Unless we're talking spontaneous Ice Age, don't cancel games, like the NFL did this year.
What happened: The weather report called for a lot of snow. The wimpy NFL responded by postponing a game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings. A mere foot fell. Had the game been played, it could have provided a memorable television experience, with a playoff berth on the line. As it happened, the game was postponed, and the Green Bay Packers went on to beat the Giants. This outcome put Philly in the playoffs without them having to take a single snap.
Tom Brady, football's Fabio

Dumb moment: Local obsession with the flowing locks of hometown hero Tom Brady trumps actual sports coverage.
What happened: It's hard not to idolize a quarterback who has led your hometown team to four Super Bowls and won three of them, but the Boston media needed to ease up on the obsession they developed on Tom Brady's new, longer hairstyle that he sported during the 2010 season. His hair was mentioned in the papers, on sports talk radio, even by Justin Beiber.
Punt of no return

Dumb moment: The playoffs were so close for the Giants, until one bad punt and one great catch killed their chance.
What happened: Philly faced New York in week 15 with playoff hopes for both teams hanging in the balance. After trailing for the entire game, the Eagles staged a massive comeback to tie it in the fourth quarter. Expecting overtime, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin ordered rookie punter Matt Dodge to boot the ball out of bounds. But after receiving a high snap, Dodge's line drive kick ended up in the arms of Philadelphia's DeSean Jackson, who ran it all the way back for a touchdown, sealing the Giants fate 37-31.
Do as I tweet, not as I do

Dumb moment: A millionaire role model gets busted for drunk driving and tweets insipid inspirational sayings at the same time. Amazing!
What happened: When New York Jets receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested in Manhattan for drunk driving last September, he clearly didn't inform whoever he was paying to do his Twitter feed for him. On the morning of the arrest, the following message appeared on Edwards' official Twitter feed: "GoodMorning World...Winning is the goal, perfection is the aspiration, & dedication is the key to unlock the door #LetsWork."
Feet of Fury

Dumb moment: So a happily married man might or might not have a foot fetish? Who cares? Wes Walker did.
What happened: Before the New England Patriots faced the New York Jets in the AFC's divisional playoff, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker subtly worked in 11 references to feet during a press conference, a clear reference to the Jets head coach Rex Ryan, who received unwanted media attention after a website published evidence suggesting he and his wife made foot fetish videos together. As a result, Patriots coach Bill Bellichick benched Welker during the kickoff. The Patriots lost the game.
