Dumb Toys That Made Somebody Rich
Electric Football
Released in 1949 and invented by the late Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate Norman Sas, Electric Football has sold more than 40 million units, and new editions are sold each year. The game enjoyed massive popularity after the National Football League began licensing the game in 1967, despite the fact that the vibrating metal table caused the goofy little players to move in entirely unpredictable, frustrating ways. Sales dropped as videogames took over the market in the 1980s, 1990s and beyond, but Electric Football endures, and has even spawned a book called "The Unforgettable Buzz" which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2012.
