In the second half of 2011, Netflix executives made a series of moves that could only be described as baffling. First, they announced they would be raising prices, and the ensuing customer uproar forced their CEO, Reed Hastings, to apologize. He then announced that Netflix would be splitting the company into two separate companies: Netflix for streaming online content and Qwikster for DVDs by mail. After the plan was criticized in the press and on social media, Netflix decided to abandon the whole thing.
