PETA or PET KillA?
PETA has earned its status as animal protector and gung-ho splasher of red paint, but is the organization guilty of committing the very crimes it abhors? Each year 2,000 ownerless pets walk through its doors but only about 300 of them survive. That's because PETA euthanizes the animals under its care at an 89% rate, according to its own report. That's considerably higher than other animal shelters, with some like Norfolk SPCA euthanizing only 5.3% on any given year. PETA says that most of the animals they receive and euthanize are in advanced stages of painful, terminal illnesses.
