We've been concerned robots ruling the world at least as far back as 1921, when R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) made its theatrical debut in Czechoslovakia. In the play, "artificial people" are manufactured to do the work of humans, but (spoiler alert) the bots turn on their makers and lay waste to the human race.
