Anneliese Michel

This mentally ill woman believed that she was possessed by demons. Though Michel did receive medical help and was on psychiatric drugs for the latter portion of her life, she also begged German bishop Josef Stangl to grant her an exorcism. During the final ten months of her life, Michel underwent one to two exorcisms per week. She also began to starve herself to atone for her sins. She died in 1976 weighing only 68 pounds. Her death was attributed to malnutrition but we can't rule out demonic malice.
