The Munich Massacre

The illusion of peace between nations at the Olympics was shattered in 1972, when 11 members of the Israeli team were taken hostage by Black September, a Palestinian terror organization. Black September held the athletes as ransom for the release of hundreds of political prisoners held in Israeli and German jails. The German police tried a rescue attempt, but it was captured on live television, enabling the terrorists to track their every move. Later, all hell broke loose as the terrorists and hostages came under heavy fire at the airport; five of the eight members of Black September were killed as well as all of the Israeli hostages.
