Andy Kaufman on Friday's

Kaufman was involved in many memorable TV appearances that were later revealed to be hoaxes. But the most iconic might be the one that took place during his first appearance on Fridays, an old school variety show in the vein of Saturday Night Live. During a sketch involving two couples on a dinner date who routinely excuse themselves to go smoke marijuana, Kaufman breaks character saying he "can't play stoned." Michael Richards, later of Seinfeld fame, angry about the live TV disaster, tossed cue cards onto Kaufman's table. As the argument escalated, Kaufman threw water on Richards and a brief scuffle broke out before the show cut to commercial. (The cast of the show later revealed the ruse.)
