Voting Is Rigged

Are the Academy Awards rigged, perhaps by a small group of people involved in the process? Film buffs, conspiracy theorists and bloggers have raised the question for years, but have been unable to back up its claims that Saving Private Ryan, Avatar and other "winners" were overruled by those undetermined "higher-ups." Of course, the Academy maintains that the voters vote... and the winner is whoever gets the highest total.
