Fashion World Conspiracy Theories
Eco-Friendly Is Often A Lie
Buyer beware: making clothes out of sustainably grown fibers like organic cotton or bamboo might not be as beneficial to the Earth as it is marketed. According to reports, 60% of the energy used during a garment's lifecycle happens after purchase (from washing and rewashing clothes.) And eco-friendly clothing may contribute to the 68 pounds of textile waste that the average American discards every year. But these facts haven't kept the fashion industry from profiting off a multi-billion dollar cash cow, or from conveniently greenwashing the truth about eco-friendly fashion.
