Mata Hari

Hari was an unemployed dancer from Holland who re-invented herself as the world's most famous stripper, prostitute… and spy. While getting it on with top military officials during WWI, she would pump them — for information — and sell the intelligence to Germany. Eventually arrested by the French, she denied knowing anything about espionage -- but then offered to spy for France against Germany. But why, her captors asked her, would a person with no knowledge of espionage offer to become a spy? Hari had no real answer. She was executed soon afterwards.
