VIDEO: America's Out-Of-Control Police State
"The Police Want To Kill Me!"
9. If cops are arresting news reporters who are simply filming the scene of an accident, it's not much of a stretch to imagine them arresting firefighters for helping out. In a video obtained by CNN and with a date stamp of May 12, 2003, firefighters can be seen arriving at the site of a car wreck in which a man had sustained a back injury. According to a followup story on TotalCriminalDefense.com, "Officer Todd Greeves arrested Capt. David Wilson because they had a disagreement about where Wilson had parked the fire truck."
That's right – firefighter Wilson refused to move the truck, apparently because he needed to box in the accident scene and prevent other cars from crashing into cops and firefighters as they worked, but a cop didn't like that. And arrested the firefighter. Wilson was awared $17,500 in damages for civil rights violations, but he had to wait more than five years for that verdict against the city of Hazelwood, Missouri.
10. In but one of numerous similar incidents the media has picked up on in the wake of the Trayvon Martin killing, Kenneth Chamberlain, Sr. was apparently shot to death by police officers in White Plains, NY, after his heart monitor sent a distress signal to police. "My name is Kenneth Chamberlain. This is my sworn testimony," he whispered into a tape recorder as police tried to break down his door. "White Plains police are going to come in here and kill me."
The distress signal, which woke Chamberlain up, was a false alarm and both Chamberlain and a 911 dispatcher agreed that the police should leave his property. Officers decided that they should enter anyway, and according to a column in The Guardian newspaper, the retiree pleaded with cops who barged in: "I'm a 68-year-old man with a heart condition. Why are you doing this to me?" His son explained: "You also hear him pleading with the officers again, over and over. And at one point, that's when [a racial] expletive is used by one of the police officers."
Why did Chamberlain end up dead of two gunshot wounds? What was the threat that police officers suspected? We may never know, because the police officer's stungun cam was shut off just before Chamberlain was shot. David Chong, the White Plains' public safety commissioner, told USA Today that "Chamberlain attacked officers with a hatchet and a knife and ignored orders to drop his weapons." But the family says the video proves the deceased was unarmed, with his hands at his sides, when the violence began. A grand jury is investigating the case.
Video of the incident has not emerged... yet.
