VIDEO: America's Out-Of-Control Police State
Cold Steel
1. In November 2011, Scott Campbell was filming a standoff between Occupy Oakland protestors and riot police in a public square. He repeatedly asked officers – "is this okay?" – before filming them; not receiving a response, he pushed "record" and filmed from what appeared to be a reasonable distance. Seconds later, Campbell appears to have been shot by a rubber bullet.
Officer Johanna Watson, a department spokeswoman, said Campbell's allegations already are being looked into.
2. YouTube user "OperationLeakS" is a wonder to behold. When his son was stopped on foot by police for an unmentioned offense, his father ("OperationLeakS") turned on his cell phone camera and recorded the five police officers who had detained his son. Nonetheless, the officers take issue with his filming and order him to stop – but they don't know who they're messing with. "LeakS" refuses to give his name, saying "Christians have names; I'm a Moor."
He continues: "I've been seeing European children walking around here all day, no one's picked them up. They said my child has not breached the peace at all, but they picked him up… You are useless. I have the right to speak!"
A female officer responds: "You work? You have a job?"
After a few minutes of this, the officer finally explains why the young boy was stopped: "It's a 9 year old boy, we'd like to get home to his parents. That's what this is about."
"You're kidnapping my child and refuse to identify yourself." Then the woman puts a hand over her name tag. Police have not commented on this matter as of press time.
