The three eyewitnesses produced by the FBI later told reporters that they had been coerced into giving false testimony. There is also debate about whether the bullets that killed the agents actually came from Peltier's gun. Regardless, after 37 years, Peltier is still in jail. Peltier's supporters believe that Peltier was denied due process because the government treated him like political prisoner. Amnesty International, a human rights group, highlighted Peltier's case as an instance of an unfair trial in the 2010 report on the state of justice in the U.S.
