With Libya, an OPEC member, embroiled in a civil war, it was in the interest of energy-hungry countries to bring peace ASAP. (After all, 44 billion barrels were riding on the outcome.) Upon gaining power, the rebels immediately sold Libya's coveted "sweet" crude oil to the United States.
