This perhaps the most persistent conspiracy theory to have haunted heavy metal over the years: the infamous "deal with the Devil." Jimmy Page was well known to have had a more than passing interest in the occult, even lifting the four characters from the mega-popular Zeppelin 4 album from centuries-old books that were rumored to contain black magic. But was Led Zeppelin's success the result of an evil pact with Lucifer himself? After all, Atlantic records signed them to a $200,000 deal in 1968 without ever having seen them play.
